Year 9 students choose their GCSE subjects in the spring term. All students study core subjects which include Maths, English, Science, PE, Computing, Social-Moral-Spiritual-Cultural (SMSC) and Preparation for Life (PfL). In addition to this they are invited to choose the other subjects they wish to study for GCSE.
Year 9 parents’ evening is the starting point for this process. Your child’s subject teachers will be able to offer advice, based on their progress to date in each subject in order to help you and your child make an informed decision.
Options evening is another opportunity to speak with subject teachers and other key members of staff to allow you and your child to make the best decisions for their future. Prior to the options evening, a selection of parents and students may be invited to a meeting with a senior member of staff to discuss their options. This member of staff can offer information, advice and guidance based on your child’s progress to date and their future ambitions to ensure that they are choosing the path that is right for them.
If you have any questions about the process, then please contact the learning manager for Year 8 and 9, Mr Hussain, for more information.
You can view the Option blocks for both Year 10 and Year 11 on our ‘curriculum page’ or just for Year 10 in the options booklet below.
Please be aware that the content in the booklet below is for this academic year (18-19), updated information regarding option choices for 2019-20 will be added soon. In the meantime, you can still take a look through the booklet for an idea of course content and skills.
