Moving up to high school

Transition advice

 Dear students and parents,

I really hope you have had a wonderful rest over the summer holidays and that you are prepared and excited for the new academic year ahead. In THS, we are all aware that during the last term, you didn’t experience our normally excellent transition days and you didn’t have time to ask all your questions and put your fears and worries aside. We hope that our virtual transition videos and presentations, available to you over summer, have been of great help. However, let me reassure you that we have plenty of time to get all your questions answered and sort out any issues you might have. We are all here for you and we are very excited to meet you in person and start off on the right foot.

For the first few weeks of September, we are aware that you will all need support in getting a clear understanding of the expectations and routines at Todmorden High School. This is only normal under the circumstances, we will be available to you at all times, especially myself and our brilliant Y7 form tutor team. We will all work tirelessly to support you and make sure you feel like home; THS is a big family and we want you to feel like that.

On our school website you will find all the information you need to be aware of. We are constantly updating our information and will contact parents as and when the government publishes new guidelines. A weekly letter was published on Classcharts on 28th August for all parents, this is also available on the website.

Y7 students will be expected to arrive on school grounds at 8.40 on Wednesday 9th September; students should enter through one of the pedestrian gates. They will need to make their way to the Assembly Hall; plenty of staff will be present outside to greet and assist with this. Please bring in any documents that need handing over to us. You can give these to the form tutors

Parents, as I underlined on my previous letter to you in July, I count on your understanding and willingness to work with me to support your child / children in the best way possible. High school might seem intimidating for some but it’s only a fresh start to an amazing journey. I am always here to help and support you as we work, with trust and respect, as a team to ensure your child / children thrive at Todmorden High School. I am so excited to work with you all, to answer all questions and be there for you and your child when needed. Should you have any urgent questions, please feel free to email me directly at demik@todhigh.co.uk .

Y7 students, I know you deserved to have a better last term in your primary school and I know you might feel worried about starting from scratch. Let me remind you though what I said back in July; I will be fair and supportive towards every single one of you. You all start from scratch for me. Y7 team will be resilient, hardworking, ambitious, respectful, caring, honest and most of all successful! We can and we will!!

I can’t wait to see you all on Wednesday! Take care and stay safe until then.

Kind regards,

Mrs Kontogiannopoulou (Mrs K)

Y7 Learning Manager

We understand that moving up to high school can be daunting for both children and parents alike.  As such, we like to do everything we can to make the transition as smooth as possible and ensure that children are given plenty of opportunities to visit the school on taster days and at fun events to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings.

We believe that one of the best ways to find out more about our school is to come and visit us.  We welcome parents to turn up during the school day, report to the main reception desk and a member of staff will show you around our school.  This will give you the perfect opportunity to see the school and our students on a normal day and it will give you a great insight into what the Todmorden High School family is all about. You can show up at any time, unannounced, we would be glad to welcome you.

Virtual Transition

This year we are hosting transition virtually.

The first event is the Transition Evening on Thursday 9th July 2020 from 6PM to 7PM.

The second event is the Transition Day on Friday 10th July.

We will put all the links for these sessions onto a page on our website.
