Debating competition

On Tuesday 3rd July, Ms Scott and Miss Thornsby took the school Debating Society to Burnley College Annual Debating Competition. The THS team did brilliantly; they were the highest scoring team in Round 1 and made it through to the Semi-Final, where they were knocked out in a very close round.

Taylor and Elliedebated in Round 1 (for the motion ‘Celebrities Should Stay Out of Politics’) and the Semi-Final (for the motion ‘Space Exploration is a Waste of Time and Money’), and Cara and Caitlin also debated in Round 1 (against the motion ‘The UK Should Embrace the Use of Fracking’). Taylor  won an award for the Best Individual Debater, and Ellie won the Debaters’ Debater award. The other members of the team (Jack , Ruairi , Noah , Christopher , Marley , Rowanne  and Erin ) had all worked very hard to help the teams prepare their cases, and both Noah and Cara won awards throughout the day for ‘Best Question’ asked by a member of the audience.

Ms Scott and Miss Thornsby are incredibly proud of the team, who worked hard, behaved impeccably, and were incredibly entertaining all day!
