Our Summer Extravaganza

Yesterday saw our Summer Extravaganza take place, including a free BBQ and the official opening of the new building block, which we have named ‘Whirlaw View’ in tribute to the fantastic view out towards the valley from the new building.

The ribbon cutting of the new building was officiated by the Mayor, Councillor’s and a speech was given by our special guest Mr Jonny Mitchell (of Educating Yorkshire). Many thanks to our dignitaries for their attendance at this very special and momentous occasion in our school history.

The event was highly successful and included the official opening of the Aisha Coggan Peace garden, a number of stalls selling fantastic handmade wares, bakes, mocktails, products and games, a rodeo bull, a delicious free BBQ provided by our catering department and cooked by the student voice reps, karaoke, live music performances from some of our staff members and students, and so much more.

The annual A-Level and GCSE Art exhibition also took place as part of the event, and was a roaring success. The work was beautifully made, and showcased our talented students’ hard work on their A-Level and GCSE projects. We wish these students all the best for their results days in August.

Many thanks to the following businesses who donated prizes for  the raffle stall;

  • Ballooning marvellous
  • Salon 85
  • Gordon Riggs
  • Cappuccino Coffee Bar
  • Market Place fish and chip shop
  • Arty Party
  • Waterside Gallery
  • Central Hair Design
  • Valentine’s Café
  • Stansfield’s Butchers

Also congratulations to Mrs Wright, who won the Oriflame products on offer at our event.

We would like to thank all of our students who attended the event and who helped out at the event for all their hard work and commitment, everyone from inside and outside of the local community who attended and supported our student council by participating in events, and our staff for their constant energy and positive input with our students. All proceeds from the event will go in to the Student Voice fund, and students will decide how the money is spent. Special thank you to Mrs Connolly and Mrs Todd who headed up the event, it was absolutely fantastic!
