THS girls have a ball on PGL netball trip

Friday 11th May – Sunday 13th May PGL Netball Tournament Boreatton Park, Shropshire.

The aim of the weekend was for students to compete in a netball tournament against schools from across the country. When students weren’t playing netball they were able to visit a variety of outdoor activities.

On Saturday the year 10 team played six games of netball in the group stages of the competition. Amazingly they won all 6 games after a close encounter with Alderman School where they came out winners 7-5. The year 9 team played 3 games on the Saturday, winning one game and losing two in what was a very tough competition. On Sunday morning the year 9 team has 3 remaining group games left, the team clicked and the team won their final 3 games comfortably.

Fantastic news – both teams were through to the semi finals which took place on Sunday afternoon. The girls were nervous but also very excited! The year 9 team were to face Longfield Academy, it was a close game and ended 4-4 at half time. Unfortunately Longfield won the game 10-6 and the Year 9 Netball team finished in 3rd place! A fantastic achievement for the team.

The year 10 team breezed through the semi final beating Alderman 2 10-1. Now onto the final with the opponents being Neston High. The girls started the game well and were in control, however nerves started to kick in and a few misplaced passes resulted in the score being 8-8 at full time. This took the final into extra time. Extra time consisted of an extra 2 minutes each way. The girls were running on adrenaline and excelled with the pressure mounting – the final score was 11-8 to TODMORDEN HIGH SCHOOL. The girls celebrated with excessive screaming for at least 2 minutes and the realisation kicked in they were champions.

The girls were presented with a medals from England Netballer Bie Skingsley. What a fantastic weekend with a great set of girls who are a credit to their parents/carers and the Todmorden High School community.

Mrs Lambert and Miss Cooper are extremely proud of the girls achievements!!!!
