SMSC & British Values

This part of the website will show you a range of activities that take place at Todmorden High School for Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Education.  You will also see activities which demonstrate our commitment to upholding and sharing British Values at Todmorden High School.

The motto of ‘Respect, Care & Honesty’ is how we drive SMSC in our school, by encouraging our students to embrace the fundamental British Values.

  • Democracy.
  • The rule of law.
  • Individual liberty.
  • Mutual respect.
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.

Todmorden High School’s Statement to Combat Extremism

Numeracy Friday

Numeracy Friday takes place each week during focus time and links in across the curriculum with other subjects. This is an important part of the form focus sessions.

SMSC Poster

This poster is in every classroom and provides a reference for students to track and reflect on their SMSC abilities.

SMSC bookmark

The SMSC bookmark is used to guide our staff on how to deploy SMSC during their lessons and across the wider school. Each member of staff is issued an SMSC bookmark which they keep with them throughout the academic year to make reference to.

Meet our SMSC ambassadors

Carefully selected to promote SMSC, Respect, Care & Honesty throughout the school. SMSC ambassadors are responsible for a number of things, and work closely with Mr Womack (Head of EPR & SMSC) to make great things happen!

Supporting documents

Delivered during assemblies, wellbeing Wednesdays and other lessons to promote SMSC across the whole school.

The ‘Prevent’ Strategy

The ‘Prevent’ strategy

The prevent strategy is nationwide and forms part of the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy.  ‘Prevent’ aims to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism and each police force within the country has a unit which is focussed on the ‘prevent’ strategy.

West Yorkshire Police’s Prevent unit have been into school to deliver training and to raise awareness to both students and staff.  You can find out more about the ‘Prevent’ strategy via the documents below.
